Costs of education in Ecuador

Education is an investment, not just in a child’s future but also in the future of their family and their community as a whole.Education is expensive in many countries in the world. Some governments or businesses highly invest in education to make it accessible for everyone. Not everyone has this privilege to make use of these benefits. This doesn’t mean that children don’t have right on education.

Costs of education

One of the main reasons why we have started Enamora is to cover the costs of education for the children of our artisans. Education shouldn’t be a luxury, but a right for every child. Education is an investment, not just in a child’s future but also in the future of their family and their community as a whole.

We strongly believe that education can solve many problems. Education is expensive in many countries in the world. Some governments or businesses highly invest in education to make it accessible for everyone. Not everyone has this privilege to make use of these benefits. This doesn’t mean that children don’t have right on education.

One of our first investments was related to organizing jewelry classes and providing school uniforms for children from families that were not able to buy it. It might be not much but it is something. We hope that the skills our artisans have learned will be helpful to sustain themselves.

School Uniform

The first picture was taken during one of the jewelry classes. The second picture is taken in the store where we bought the uniforms. We love the last picture, a proud Aaron with his new uniform, he asked us for a haircut too! Doesn't he look beautiful?

Education in Ecuador

Education in Ecuador is expensive. Sending a child to school costs least $4 a day per child. Here we talk about the rural poor areas. These costs cover the transportation and a small lunch for a basic primary or high school. It may look cheap to you, but if you live in an area where the average income is $5 a day and where the average family has at least 3 or 4 children, it is very expensive.

Schools in Ecuador
These pictures show 2 basis primary schools in Ecuador. Both are taken near the community where we are working.

In the area in Ecuador where we are working, children are not allowed to get into class if they don’t have a uniform. A school uniform and school supplies for one child per year cost around $150. This includes 1 uniform, 1 uniform for gymnastics, shoes, socks a backpack and other necessary supplies such as pens, paper and other writing materials.

We would love to buy these supplies for every child of our artisans and our dream is to provide all children of the entire community with the necessary supplies.

We pay our artisans fair prices, which are 4 times higher than the average income in the area, a reasonably salary that covers the costs of living.

BLOG: THE UNTOLD STORY BEHIND A PRICE TAG

Without your support it is impossible for us to continue to provide the necessary supplies for these families.

You might think that our prices are high, but believe us, they are fair. We would never use the money for things that are not related to the project. If we wanted to become rich we would have started a different type of business.

We love what we are doing and nothing makes us happier than providing the families with supplies that they need. We were so proud that we were able to provide the first families with school supplies last year, and we hope to make more families happy. Please consider this information before you buy something. And remember without you we wouldn’t be here!

Thanks for understanding and for reading our message!

We hope to see you there one day so you can see how they are living.

We use our education to support others. Education was not only an investment in ourselves but also in the communities of others.

I don’t have family in Ecuador but I feel the need to help these people there, because of my education. Everyone is born with a reason and will find his/her passion in life. I believe this is mine.
